Biography - Club "51"    USA

Chicago, IL label (1955-1957).

Club "51" was one of those rather obscure and short-lived labels from Chicago. Founded by Jimmie Davis and his wife Lilian in 1955, it existed 2 years until 1957. The label operated from Jimmie Davis´ "Savoy Record Mart" at 527 East 63rd Street. The main business of Mr. Davis, however, was the Park City Bowl skating rink at 345 East 63rd (on the corner of 63rd and South Parkway Boulevard). Due to his roller skating activities, he was very popular in the black community and had a good feeling also for the black entertainment scene. J. Davis died in 1995. All known regular issues and acetates are listed in the discography (for further information have a look at the excellent site of "The Red Saunders Research Foundation").
