Biography - Currys UK See also Portland, Westport as well as Curry Currys are a British high street chain store. They originally started as a bicycle manufacturer and retailer, but expanded into electrical goods. All Curry records are relabelled pressings from main labels. Currys released 78rpms under the Currys, Curry, Portland, and Westport labels. The earliest Curry records, from ca. 1911, were "Bell" and "Winner" masters pressed by Edison Bell. A second series on a yellow label with black letters (Nr. 1-above 100), pressed by Crystalate, was made between 1919-1921. A third series, on a black label with yellow letters (Nr. 1-ca. 350), ran from 1921-1929 and used masters from Grammavox, Popular, Imperial, and the American Record Corporation.
