By December 1949, the label is in financial trouble and Rene is forced to sell most of its masters for the benefit of his creditors; in Jan. 1950 the label ceases operations. The original labels are blue, then black; by 1948, the label color shifts to red, and in mid-1948, the company introduces a red label with a slanted Excelsior logo. Early 1946: Rene and distributor Jack Gutshall's Excelsior business is praised for effectiveness and sales success. Late 1946: Rene splits from Gutshall who is none too pleased and is quoting contracts terms.
