Biography - Gotham    USA

Founded by Sam Goode (a.k.a. Goody) and Irvin Ballen in 1946 in New York City (the city's nickname is Gotham). In January 1948, Ballen buys out Goody's share and relocates the label to Philadelphia. The catalogue numbers then began the "G" prefix

The label was best known for its R&B and Gospel releases, which ran from 100 up into the 300's. A 400 Country, Novelty and White Gospel series also existed. There was an early 500 Blues series. The second busiest Gotham series was the 600 Gospel series. There was also an 800 series with but one known release which might have been an early iteration of the 400 series. Also a 900 Latin series.
