Biography - Hit ![]() U.S. budget label founded by Eli Oberstein and Al Middleman, active 1942-1945. Label Story U.S. budget label founded by Eli Oberstein and Al Middleman, active 1942-1945. Released new recordings by pseudonymous bands during the 1942-1943 Petrillo recording ban. These cheaply produced records were then sold for 50c in dime stores and Firestone service stations. Eli Oberstein, the king of low price records, announced the reactivation of his Hit label in 1950. The new labels bore the logo Wright Record Company instead of the older "Classic." This seems to have been a short-lived venture as Varsity and Royale soon became the main labels of his operation. « Discography Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
