Biography - H.R.S. USA The Hot Record Society (H.R.S.) was founded in 1937 by Stephen Smith; in 1939, he also opened the HRS Record Shop on 827 Seventh Ave. in New York. The label began reissuing out-of-print jazz records in 1937; from 1938 to 1947, it released its own jazz recordings under the H.R.S. label (303 Fifth Ave, NY). The masters were acquired in 1948 by Jack Caiden, then president of Empire Records, and leased out for reissue, e.g., to Atlantic Records. « Discography Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
