Biography - Imperial UK The first series of IMPERIAL RECORDS issued in the UK were manufactured and exported by Messrs. Leeds & Catlin from Middleton, Cincinatti, USA. All were 10 inches diameter with single face recordings, the first discs becoming available in April 1906. Although a second series of double sided discs was advertised, no discs have ever been located. The third series of IMPERIAL RECORDS was advertised in September 1922, starting with a catalogue of discs numbered from 819 up 1030 using recordings from Grammavox,Popular,Ye Popular,Chappell and Bulldog.Further releases were announced in the press in September and November, but due to the high levels of orders, no discs were issued until December. The label was owned by Sound Recording Co Ltd until August 1925, when it was taken over by The Crystalate Manufacturing Co Ltd. Crystalate owned the label until January 1928, when it went into liquidation producing discs up to 1848. The new company controlling the label was The Crystalate Gramophone Record Manufacturing Co. Ltd. which continued issuing discs until early 1934.
