Biography - Jazz Man

Independent label releasing New Orleans Revival and West Coast Jazz.
Founded in 1941 by David Stuart, owner of the Jazz Man Record Shop on 1221 Vine St. in Hollywood, CA. By 1944, that store had been taken over by Marili Morden. She and her later husband Nesuhi Ertegun founded the Crescent label in order to release a number of recordings by Kid Ory.
In late 1946, Ertegun bought the rights to the Jazz Man label name from Stuart. He redesigned the label, giving it the same green design as his earlier Crescent label, and issued it from 1947-1950.
In 1952, Jazz Man was acquired by Lester Koenig of Good Time Jazz.
