Began 1941 recording specialised Folk and Worldmusic and Jazz. In 1947, Keynote's Board of Directors included John Hammond and Paul Robeson with Eric Bernay who eventually sold his stock to Hammond and announced that they were expanding their artist roster to include other types of music than just Jazz. Soon they had Classical and an agreement with a Czechoslovakian company for masters.They had a co-operation pact with Mercury who eventually "absorbed" Keynote in early 1948, promising a Mercury-Keynote imprint
