Label Story
American label, active 1945-1948. Started out reissuing material from Eli Oberstein's old "HIT" label, often with the same catalog numbers. Earliest releases are from March 1945. Majestic's masters along with their pressing plant was later bought by Mercury in 1948.
According to Billboard, May 5, 1945, Majestic Radio & Television Corp. bought Al Middleman and Eli Oberstein's old "Hit" label in early 1945, then reissued this material under the newly founded Majestic Records label. Mercury bought Majestic lock stock and barrel in October 1948. Mercury were still releasing Majestic recordings into 1950.
In 1950, Oberstein starts a "Hit" label again!
