Biography - Perfect    USA

Launched in 1922 as a subsidiary of Pathé Phonograph & Radio Corporation. In July 1929, the American Recording Company (ARC) purchased Pathé and continued to use Perfect as one of their budget labels.

The earliest labels are black with an octagonal border (1922). 1923 sees the introduction of what became Perfect's longstanding logo, the sun-worshipping maidens, on which two young women with long, flowing hair kneel and pray to the rising sun. In late 1924, the phrase "Perfect Record Company, Brooklyn N.Y." is added at the bottom of the labels.

Between 1925 and October 1927, Perfect issued a special series, the Star Series, devoted to highlighting some of its most popular stars, especially Cliff Edwards (Ukulele Ike) and Lee Morse.

Between 1927 and 1930, both Perfect and its mother label, Pathé, added an Ⓔ to the labels to indicate that records were made from electrically recorded masters.

In 1930, the labels began to list matrix numbers below the catalog numbers. In Fall 1930, they added the word "Electric" to the logo and the phrase "Made in U.S.A." below the matrix number.

Until late 1931, the labels continued to show the company name as Perfect Record Company. Then the space for the company name was left empty for a brief time. From early 1932 on, the labels said Product of American Record Corporation. In late 1932, the catalog number moved from the bottom of the label to the left of the spindle hole.
In 1935, blue and purple labels were introduced. November 1937 saw the switch to a Full-Range Recording label that looked exactly like Melotone labels from that time. In 1938, the Perfect label was discontinued.

The Perfect label was revived in 1993 by Dean Blackwood to press 78 RPM vinyl records for modern artists.
