Biography - Philips Germany German branch of the Dutch Philips label, released 78s between 1950 and 1956. The earliest releases start in April 1950 with catalog number PH 4001. Labels show the Philips shield topping an unbroken circle. On the far left of the spindle hole, a large, boxed logo of the rights society B.I.E.M. is placed, followed by the matrix number. At the end of 1950, a so-called code number appears below the matrix number that adds a 4 to the catalog number and splits the PH-prefix apart. For example, PH 4051 appears with the code nr. P 44051 H. At the same time, the boxed BIEM loses its dots. Later in 1951, the code nr. becomes the new catalog number, with the old catalog number in a smaller font listed in brackets below, e.g., P 44108 H (PH 4108). In 1952, the golden label ring is broken at the label bottom, with curved hooks at the two ends. 1H and 2H, marking A and B sides, are attached to the matrix numbers, now placed at the far left of the spindle hole, and right society or publisher logos appear in a small box at the bottom of the label. In 1953, 78N appears in the label ring gap at the bottom of the labels. « Discography Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
