Biography - Regal Zonophone UK Regal Zonophone first releases were made in January 1933 after Columbia and HMV merged to form EMI. Dates before this indicate that the discs were originally issued on Regal (G/MR) or Zonophone (T). Regal was Columbia's cheap label, and Zonophone was HMV's. Back catalogues of both companies were issued on R-Z. MR 749 and upwards are R-Z new issues. The earliest labels (1933-1934) were red and green, with Made in England and two lines of copyright text above the label name. In 1935, the label color became red only. In 1948, the copyright text grew to 4 lines. Apart from the red labels, there were also blue labels for Salvation Army music.
