Biography - Rena UK The Rena Manufacturing Company was founded in 1908 by Louis Sterling and N.M. Rodkinson. Rodkinson had previously been with Deutsche Grammophon in Berlin, and American-born Sterling had been General Manager of Zonophone in 1904 and 1905, but had left that label to form the Russell Hunting Company with two other partners. This company had produced Sterling cylinders. However, the company had failed, probably a reflection of decrease in cylinder popularity, and Sterling moved on to form Rena. Rena discs were pressed by Columbia and used Columbia recordings. Rena 1001 to 1217 were released between December 1908 and November 1909. Rena became part of Columbia in late 1909, and Columbia continued to issue Rena-labelled discs (but with the Columbia name in the lower arc of the label) from December 1909 to September 1910 (Nos. 1218 to 1408). The Rena name lived on in the name Columbia-Rena, used on Columbia 10-inch double-sided records until October 1915. Sterling became the head of Columbia, then Managing Director of EMI, and was knighted for his services. See Columbia for fuller details. « Discography Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
