Label bio

Ristic was an indie label set up by John R. T. Davies in the 1950s. Ristic was his nickname when he was at school. The label mostly produced high quality redubs of rare 78s from the 1920s on vinyl, but also some original releases, usually in quantities of up to 100 copies.

The Ristic label issued a few 10" albums, a few 10" 78's, and some 10" EP's that played at 45 rpm. No set number sequence for each category existed, so each release had the next number, whether it was an album, a 78, or an EP.

There were a very small number of 12" LPs too and a much later issue of a Marty Grosz LP by which time the Ristic codes had become letters (in this case SAH).

In addition to the Ristic label John R. T. Davies sometimes issued material on another indie label called "Bateau Chinois" and occasionally exactly the same material appeared on both labels in exactly the same form.
