Biography - Starck USA The Starck label was issued by the Starck Piano Company of Chicago and New York, using masters leased from Pathe. Recording dates of known examples suggest a starting time in the waning days of 1924 and an end date in mid-March 1927. The catalog number of every known example of a Starck disc is the last three digits of the Starck record's counterpart in the Pathe Actuelle 25000 or 36000 series. Because of the dual sources of material, higher Starck catalog numbers (drawn from the 36000 series) may have earlier recording dates (and therefore probably also earlier release dates) than lower Starck numbers (drawn from the 25000s). Because we don't know the details of the arrangement with Pathe, we don't whether you can safely extrapolate the existence of Starck numbers above, below, or in the gaps between known numbers. If Starck chose exactly the records it wanted, the "missing" numbers may not exist at all, If they do exist, however, it should be possible to predict with rare accuracy just what they are by referring to the Pathe catalogs of the time. For example, I know of eight Cliff Edwards items, but if there is a Starck record for every number between the lowest number known to me (159) and the highest (207) there could 2-3 times that many by Edwards alone. I know of no Lee Morse items on Starck, but there could be several of those, as well. « Discography Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
