Barnabás von Géczy - BiographyBarnabás von Géczy (born March 4, 1897 in Budapest - died July 2, 1971 in Munich) was a popular violin player and orchestra leader with Hungarian roots. He was very successful in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s. Von Géczy studied the violin with Jenö Hubay at the musical academy in Budapest, Hungary. In summer 1922 he left Hungary to work in Trondheim, Norway. There he founded his first own orchestra. Later he went to Berlin. From 1925 - 1937 Barnabás von Géczy directed the house orchestra of the well-known Esplanade-Hotel in Berlin. Von Géczy recorded more than 700 titles for various record labels, including Homocord, Parlophon, Telefunken, Electrola/HMV. After World-War II, he recorded with Polydor.
