Bernard Etté - Biography

  

Bernard Etté was a German dance band leader and violinist. He was born on 13 Sep 1898 in Kassel, Germany, and died on 26 Sep 1973 in Mühldorf am Inn, Germany.
In the early 1920s Bernard Etté played with his orchestra in Berlin in locations like Femina-Bar, Excelsior, Hotel Adlon or Bristol. Some band members were Franz Grothe, Dajos Bela, Paul Godwin, Billy Bartholomew, and Otto Stenzel. He recorded on various record labels, like Vox, Gloria and others. After 1945 he tried to start a new Orchestra in the USA, but he was not successful. He lost a fortune due to the war and the Soviet occupation. At the end of the 1940s, he played in smaller cities and spas in Germany. To make more money, he also played popular arrangements and opera songs. At the end of the 1950s, Etté decided to end his active musical career. He died impoverished in a small flat.
