Cecil (C. Gull) Phillips - BiographyHaron Cecil Phillips was born August 18 1924 in Helenwood Tennessee. He died in Roswell, New Mexico in, February of 1985. He was a talented rythm guitar, steel guitar, and fiddle player, songwriter, and vocalist. He played with many musicians in his lifetime, including a short stint with Lefty Frizell. He was friends with Tag Lambert, of Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys, and they spent time together before Tag's death. He spent several years working as a disc jockey at KKAT and KRSY radio stations and continued to work as a musician his entire life. He was one of three children of Haron Carl Phillips, and Leona Mae (Stroud) Phillips. Leona was sister to Leonard Stroud world champion trick-rider and cowboy in the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. Cecil spent most of his life in Arizona, California, and New Mexico. Cecil contracted polio as a very small child and suffered the physical effects of the disease for his entire life. Cecil married Melba Robinson in Yuma, Arizona. 1953 marked the birth of their son, they moved to Roswell, New Mexico and had their second child, a daughter, in 1964, both children reside in Roswell, New Mexico.
