Efim Schachmeister mit seinem Künstler-Ensemble - BiographyChaim "Efim" Schachmeister was a German violinist and dance band leader. He was born in Kiew on July 22, 1894 and he died at age of 50 years in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Oct 6, 1944. He had a great success in Germany in the 1920s. His parents were Romanian Jews. He was educated in music in Berlin at the Stern Conservatory. In 1925 he got a job as dance band leader at the famous Excelsior Hotel in Berlin. At that time he recorded a lot of dance band songs for the German Grammophone Company. He played foxtrots, shimmies, charlestons and waltzes.
