Кавсадзе - BiographyGeorgian Choir under the direction of Mikheil Kavsadze Mikheil Kavsadze (1880–1951) was born in the village of Khovle, in the region of Kaspi, He learned folk songs from his father, Longinoz Kavsadze, and from his uncle Sandro (1874–1939). Mikheil formed his first choir in 1897. By 1905, he had moved to Tbilisi, where he formed a new choir. In 1911, Mikheil was handed the direction of Sandro Kavsadze's choir, which he continued to lead for many years, performing frequently in concert and recording several gramophone discs. Mikheil was a master of Kartli-Kakhetian song and worked diligently to popularize and preserve this folklore, often traveling to villages to revive lost songs from old village singers. He may be considered one of Georgia's first ethnomusicologists. Unfortunately, no record survives of who the singers in his choir were.
