Marek Weber - BiographyMarek Weber was a German violin player and orchestra leader, who had big success in the 1920s. He was born on October 24th, 1888 in Lemberg (then Austro-Hungary), and died on February 9th, 1964 in Chicago, USA. Weber came to Berlin in 1906 to study music on the Stern Conservatory. At age 20, he formed his first own orchestra. In 1920 he found a job as orchestra leader in Berlin's number one hotel, the Adlon. He recorded first for the Parlophon label from 1919 to 1925, then he got a contract with the newly formed Electrola label. He became one of the most popular German orchestra leaders during the 1920s and early 1930s. His orchestra played foxtrots, waltzes and tangos, and sometimes a bit of jazz. Jazz trumpet player Arthur Briggs recorded some tunes with Marek Weber. Weber's musical taste, however, was conservative, and he didn't like the modern jazz. In 1933 he left Nazi Germany because of his Jewish beliefs and settled down in the USA where he became known as the "Radio Waltz King". After WWII, he purchased a ranch and retired from show business. « Back to Discography Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
