Paul Godwin - Biography

  

Paul Godwin, real name Pinchas Goldfein, was a German violinist and Dance-Band-Leader, who had big success in the 1920s. He was born on March, 28th 1902 in Sosnowitz a small town near Kattowitz, and he died on December, 9th 1982 in Driebergen.
He had learned to play the violin with teacher Hermann Kaplan in Warsaw and in Budapest with teacher Jenö Hubay. In 1920 he moved to Berlin to form his first own orchestra. Godwin accompanied varios singers with his orchestra, like: Max Hansen, Curt Bois, Otto Reutter (comedian), Betty Bird or Paul o´Montis. He also played in Berlin at the famous Delphi-Palast. He also took a musically part in the first movies in the early 1930s. His remarkable Soundtrack work was for the cartoon-movie Micky Mouse. He recorded around 2500 tracks from 1923 - 1933. He played Foxtrotts, Shimmys, Charlestons, Waltzes, Tangos, classical-tunes, Soundtracks. In 1933 he left Germany in case of his Jewish belief to Holland. He founded a new Orchestra and he played in Switzerland, Belgium, Vienna and in Budapest between 1933-1937. After the second worldwar, he never went back to Germany. In 1952 Paul Godwin became a Dutch citizen. From that time on he played classical Music only.
