Peetie Wheatstraw - BiographyWilliam Bunch. Blues singer/guitarist/pianist. (b. December 21, 1902 in either Ripley, TN. or Cotton Plant, AR.--d. December 21, 1941 in East St. Louis, IL.) (Automobile accident) Billed as "The Devil's Son-In-Law" and "The High Sheriff From Hell", he was one of the most popular and prolifically recorded blues artists of his day, waxing 161 titles for the Vocalion, Bluebird and Decca labels. In addition to his own career, he also played guitar or piano on recordings by other artists.
