Peter Alexander - Biography

  

Peter Alexander was born on June 30th, 1926 in Vienna, Austria as Peter Alexander Neumayer. He was a very popular singer in Austria and Germany. He recorded first for Austroton Records in the first half of the 1950s, then for Polydor and (since 1966) for Ariola. In Germany he worked as a singer, actor, dancer and TV host. The most successful years in his career were in the 1960s and 1970s. He also covered Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson songs in German language, but he sang classical songs and opera songs, too.

Peter Alexander died on February 12th, 2011, aged 84, in Vienna. After his death, he was named the biggest singles artist ever in Germany, with 459 songs having charted on the singles chart.
