 Ah - very interesting indeed.

So, allowing for inflation from the 1910's, compared to Caruso, the cost of a Melba was a mere bagatelle. (About £ 80 to £ 100 in today's money apparently ?).

 Melba was one of the few 'super stars' of the day, and HMV charged top prices for her recordings. A 'red label' 10" (major names) would cost 10/- (50p) in contrast to 5/-(25p) for a normal 10". By 1912 a Caruso 12" could cost you 25/- (£1.25)!

 21 Shillings (One Guinea) seems a lot to pay for a record in 1906.

Perhaps it was sold at one of her concerts ?
