 Basically an augmented Five Pennies, with Red Nichols, Leo McConville, Miff Mole, Dick McDonough and Vic Berton all playing in fairly "straight" commercial style here. The William Grant Still arrangement dates to his time working with Handy ca. 1916 and has some fine moments. The tawdry account of how Don Vorhees came to direct Earl Carroll's Vanities Orchestra involves a naked woman bathing in a bathtub full of illegal champagne and a perjury conviction that landed Carroll in Federal prison for a year.
