According to John Bolig's introductory essays to the Victor Black Label Discography, the number in the wax at the 9 o'clock position on Victor recordings is, in fact, the take number.

Dahr lists the artist as Peerless quartet for side B. But then on another page states:
"An earlier recording by the Haydn Quartet (see B-407) also was issued as 16218. Some copies of Vi 16218 issued from B-21913 show the Haydn Quartet as the main performer.
Victor ledgers show takes 1-3 as unaccompanied.
Source(s): Rigler-Deutsch Index; trade catalog; Victor ledgers."

There is no matrix number stamped on this record. There is a 6 stamped at 9 o'clock in the runout. Take 6? DAHR also spells Hayden as Haydn. ODP uses both spellings.
