Acetates are not pressed, they're cut.

In Britain at least, library music tracks were commonly issued on 78s up until the end of the 1960s - see the Chappell label for instance. Apparently the better sound quality mattered when audiovisual productions were in question; the sound quality deteriorated on film anyway, so the starting point in quality had to be set higher. If this is not a fake, it was probably used in production of the movie.

I was looking through auction sites at some of the highest prices paid on sold elvis records and there were these records listed. They were sold as acetates but I'm no expert on elvis/acetates so if anybody with better knowledge than me would rather these were deleted or changed from acetate to reproduction fakes.
I know this site doesn't like direct copying if images if the record isn't personally owned by the contributed but I edited the images simply because I thought there would be some dispute abou the records' being real or not. So the images are up for people to decide if they look legit or not.

Sorry If I have caused any problems by uploading these "acetates"

Can they have used 78rpm, just to get a better sound?

Would MGM in the US have pressed a 78 in 1963 ? An6y66 - can you let us know where the source of these finds are, because I think they all need some checking...

:-)
