Notes

Glenn Miller And His Orchestra

Side A: Miller's last Top 40 hit during his lifetime. See the entry for "It Must Be Jelly ('Cause Jam Don't Shake Like That) for more information on recording date and session info.

Side B: Vocal refrain by Marion Hutton. Arranged by Jerry Gray. Although uncredited on the label, Sunny Skylar co-wrote the tune (see accompanying sheet music cover).

"Long Time No See, Baby" was recorded at the RCA Victor Studios in New York City on November 22, 1940. Although it was not issued on shellac until this release in March, 1944, it was featured regularly on his CBS Chesterfield radio program and NBC remote broadcasts from various venues from early October, 1940 through early 1941.

Personnel on the session were:

Trumpets: Billy May, Ray Anthony, Dale McMickle, Johnny Best
Trombones: Glenn Miller, Jimmy Priddy, Paul Tanner, Frank D'Annolfo
Reeds: Hal McIntyre, alto sax; Ernie Caceres, alto and baritone sax and clarinet; Wilbur Schwartz, clarinet and alto sax
Rhythm: Chummy MacGregor, piano; Jack Lathrop guitar; Herman "Trigger" Alpert, bass; Maurice Purtill, drums

 An interesting side note:

Miller trombonist Paul Tanner played the Electro-Theremin (which he also developed) on several Beach Boys releases, including most notably "Good Vibrations" and "Wild Honey".

Out of all the band members listed above, only trumpeter Ray Anthony is still with us at 92 years of age.

Tanner died of pneumonia on February 5, 2013 at the age of 95. Bassist "Trigger" Alpert passed on December 21, 2013 of natural causes at the age of 97.
