Joan, died of heart failure in 1981 in a mental institution in the US state of New Jersey. She has lead the life of a recluse, even Columbia's attempts to contact her with royalty cheques failed.

One of the major reasons she failed to ever chart again was that she gave birth to her daughter, Terry Lynn, just as the record hit its chart heights, hitting #1 on Billboard and #16 in the UK, and was not able to advance her career.

Joan Weber was the ultimate "one-hit-wonder". This song was a re-write of a country song "Let Me Go Devil", originally about the evils of alcohol. Weber's changed version was featured as theme song in a "Studio One" TV drama about shady characters in the record industry (surely not!) and it became a massive overnight hit. Song was covered by Patti Page and Teresa Brewer but Weber's original version was the biggie. Weber was an inexperienced teenager with personal problems and couldn't cope with stardom. She vanished without a trace.
