Rudolph Sperling is not listed as a known pseudonym in Allen Sutton's "Pseudonyms On American Records, 1892-1942". Neither is there a reference or a cross-reference for his name in Tony Russell's "Country Music Records, A Discography 1921-1942". In his introductory material, Russell indicates that the Silvertone 5000 series was sourced from and manufactured by Gennett Records. Sperling does not surface in a search of my own Gennett file, however. He may be one of those obscure artists that only Gennett found and recorded. The mx on the flip-side recording by Irving Kaufman is shown in my files as X0868, dated Sept. 1927 and known to have appeared on Gennett 6250 with another Kaufman side. Sperling's recording might be reasonably contempaneous with Kaufman's, although it doesn't have to be. I only have one solo vocal version of "When Day Is Done" in my Gennett file. It is by Elliott Stewart on mx X0682 dated June 23, 1927. It appeared on Gennett 6127. If Sperling is a pseudonym, perhaps an aural comparison of Silvertone 5150 and Gennett 6127 would be instructive.

I never heard of "Rudolph Sperling", the B side artist. Nor could I find any information on the internet about this singer. Is Rudolph Sperling a possible pseudonym?
