 Early Morning Blues has Archibald moving into a solid mainstream blues vein, and I really like it. It doesn't move like his habitual stride/ragtime, but it has more emotional muscle and it moves enough.

Great Big Eyes looks like an attempt at another Fats Waller comic/jive track. Unlike She's Scattered Everywhere, however, it's neither clever nor especially funny. The sax solo is excellent. It would have been better if they'd left the vocal out completely, but I imagine that would have been defeating the purpose of making the record in the first place. I'm not surprised they didn't make more of these. It's just too bad they also didn't make more like The Early Morning Blues or the sax solo from Great Big Eyes.

 This was Archibald's final single release, except for reissues of "Stack-A-Lee."
