 This particular Harmony label was a Columbia budget label. Matrix numbers were within Columbia's own matrix series. Franklyn Baur (like Frank Luther and others) was a voice-for-hire and appeared as vocalist on countless danceband records. He was probably paid a flat rate for every session. "Manhattan Dance Makers" was a pseudonym used on Harmony for Ben Selvin's Orchestra. Selvin was Columbia's music director, kind of the Mitch Miller of the 1920s. He recorded a vast amount of records which were released all over the world under different pseudonyms. It'll be fun as this site progresses to try to unravel the real identities of all these different 1920s bands. If you're interested in this period it's well worth checking your local library for the various Brian Rust discographies.
