It is rather interesting how many British popular songs people DON'T know the verses to. ("Long Way to Tipperary," "Rule Britannia" come to mind). I never knew Weston and Lee's verses to "Knees Up, Mother Brown." No doubt these had been modified for this 1940 release, referencing The Black Out and The Western Front (though that was more a WW1 thing, as the East of France had started to fold fairly quickly come WW2). The mix of South London Pearly Kings references (See Lambeth Walk) and Brixton gets a place name check here - whatever happened to the British Culture of Brixton (moved in 1953 to Crawley and New Addington?). The Sunday use of the front parlour (or its use for the Birthday Party Dancing) in the 2up 2down terraces continued but the records changed from 10in shellacs to the 7in reggae numbers as the years ticked by. There is also a bit of Cockney rhyming slang here too, East London didn't have the monopoly on it, the Old Kent Road shared the culture mostly from the working in the markets of central london during the (4am to 2pm) wholesale era.
