To solve a 9 year old mystery, I think I can confirm that this isn't "the" Tom Jones narrating

 Nice try, Jock_Girl!

[For the record (as 'twere): "I mi, mae'n annhebygol iawn mai Tom Jones yw hwn oherwydd ar adeg ei ryddhau y buasai'n 9 mlwydd oed. Hefyd, Thomas John Woodward yw ei enw go iawn, nid Tom Jones"].

To me is is highly unlikely that this is 'the' Tom Jones because at the time of release he would have been 9 years old. Also, his real name is Thomas John Woodward, not Tom Jones.

Not entirely convinced, I must admit. For one thing, do you have any idea how many people called 'Tom Jones' there would have been in Wales at that time?

This may be worth further investigation,if you check out the Wikipedia link to Idloes Owen and then onto Tom Jones,it definitely states that "The" Tom Jones was narrator. The date of this particular record is hard to pin down(anybody know?),it could be 1948 or 1949,according to various searches,in which case Tom would have been 8 or 9,but bear in mind this is narration and not singing, therefore could it not be possible that this was his first apperance on vinyl?
PS I have no way of listening to the record, nor can i find a recording on You Tube, and as such,i don't know to what extent the narration takes on.
PPS Bear with me ,i could be barking up the wrong tree (or just barking:)

Well i typed in The Lyrian Singers and followed the link to Tom Jones on Wikipedia, and it seems to tie in,mind you,it could be wrong:)

Hardly likely to be "The" Tom Jones. He didn't start recording until long after 78s stopped being issued in the UK. And the BBC programme Welsh Rarebit ended in about 1951.
