This was part of Album number 386 (albums were called Record Libraries after World War 2). C.7611 -7622 was the auto-coupled version. The full list of performers on this set were Heddle Nash (tenor), Dennis Noble (baritone), Gladys Ripley (mezzo soprano), and Norman Walker (bass),along with the Huddersfield Choral Society and the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. June 1945 is the release date provided by HMV trade catalogues.

Thanks, I was quoting from a re-issue CD
Surfing Wikipedia, we find that The British Council first appeared in 1936, but more usefully, under Sargent we find:
"A recording regularly chosen over all others in comparative surveys is the first of Sargent's two versions of Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius with Heddle Nash as tenor and the familiar Sargent pairing of the Huddersfield Choral Society and the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, recorded in 1945"
I think that in a great many cases the date most commonly associated with pre-war 78s is the recording date, so I will add 1945 for the date of this even if the date of release is not known, as it may help to order the label catalogue no's

Jules - I have added the labels. No other artists named, although Recorded under the auspices of the British Council may give you a clue?

Presumably, the 1945 recording by Sargent and the LPO: Heddle Nash, Gladys Ripley, Dennis Noble, Norman Walker, and The Huddersfield Ch. Soc.
