This is a very interesting record, which you have put into wonderful historical perspective. Knowing its history as you do, it makes me wonder why you hesitated to assign it its proper place as an RCA Victor product. There is nothing on the disc to suggest a connection to the corporate entity that we refer to as HMV that does not equally point to RCA. MOreover, all of the history behind the disc is RCA Victor's, not HMV's, and they trumpet it as the first RCA Victor, even if that notion is debatable. If you look at the list of trademarked phrases around the edge, you'll see that the very first is RCA Victor. I don't know if HMV would go so far as to claim that one for itself. RCA, on the other hand, does claim the words "His Master's Voice". There is no British monopoly there. I think we are stretching the concept of HMV a bit far in positing such a thing as HMV USA, unless we call it by its name: RCA Victor.

Victor

Lists it as Victor A-624, but as the number is 624, it seems strange to be a 'first'

Victor Records

Calls it the earliest master.

Note that here you will see it as Monarch 3049

As this is a 1901 USA recording, it would probably have been on Zon-O-Phone. More info explaining why here.

The label text "The first RCA Victor record ever released" is not exactly correct as:
a) RCA Victor did not exist in 1901. This was originally on Monarch 3049, Monarch being a precursor to Victor
b) There are earlier recordings by Ossman for Victor assocaited labels

This is vinyl record

As to the label name, RCA Victor is not directly named on the label, so I have gone with HMV
