The Missing Chart book is based on distribution of records not actual sales like in other chart books and charts. Records were sent out to the shops in the first week or second week of each month, so that's what the book shows. The book shows what was sent out to the shops in large numbers. Now of course that doesn't reflect what people purchased. You can see this at Christmas time in the book, when all the Christmas songs are being sent out. But in the first chart of the New Year all distribution of the Christmas songs stops. Of course the public would still be purchasing them at least for about two weeks after Christmas.
I agree about the sides of the record. The author often lists the B side instead of the A. They even made a CD of the top sellers in the book. But many of these Number One hits are the B side that when played to older people who were around in the 40's and 50's they don't recognise. But when the correct side is played they do! Often the A side it's the song that was in the sheet music charts of the time. Where the B side in the book wasn't.

I'd take the dates in that Missing Charts book with a pinch of salt. Can't really argue with the chart positions in there, as personally I think they are quite accurate, but nearly all songs in there seemed to chart the first week of the month they were released, which is not usually the case.
Only Fools was the hit side of this disc for Lee Lawrence whereas Never was a stronger seller for David Hughes.

Delayed till February 1952 according to the missing hits book. Which also lists the B side.
