 From my research Festival didn't exist until 1952.
Woody Herman's first LP was "Sequence In Jazz" (Columbia 1949) and "Woodchoppers Ball" is listed as Decca 1955. This was a compilation of earlier recordings (40's) with Decca. There were about 24 tracks put down of which only 4 or 5 were released on 78's in the 40's.
Prior to LP's he had recorded a lot of his classics during the 30's thru 40's on 78's.

 Well yes, this 78 was lifted from the 1943 "Woodchopper's Ball" longplaying album. Australia was way ahead of the game. (Sorry, New Zealand... it's got something to do with the international time line just to the east of NZ).
