 Vera Matson was the wife of "Love Me Tender"'s real composer, Ken Darby. Under pressure from Elvis Presley's manager, Col. Parker, Elvis was given half the song-writing credit for the song, although he had no role in actually writing it. As a sort of commentary on the deal, Darby had his own name removed from the song and substituted his wife's name because she had as much to do with writing it as Elvis did.
