My best bet is that this is explained by the history of the changes within the label. The first address on this disc is the W. Kensington address, where Colin Pomroy lived first. The Charing Cross is a later address and might coincide with the beginnings of the EPs hence the addition of the J to the L prefix.

I'll order these images to match the historical colours and codes.

Yes, Scrough, as regards the EPs on vinyl, all of them begin with J as do the singles (JDN for a single JEN for an EP where N stand for "new jazz")

But I'm wondering why here, there is a J being used when simply the letter L as a prefix is the rule for almost all other records in the series.

I've done a lot of work on the Collector label and have pretty much completed the EP and single discography, still working on 78s though...

Changed the shadow cat# to be out in the light.
Just to get continuity with the rest of the releases in his disco.

 Is it this one?
Rainey Ma & Ida Cox with Trixie Smith
(Reply:
The EP A side is Ma Rainey's Tub Jug Washboard Band: Deep Moaning Blues + Travelling Blues.
The B side is Trixie Smith:Railrod Blues + Worlds Jazz Crazy and So am I
No Ida Cox on this.)

There's a whole bunch of different prefixes in the EP series Jazz Collector & Collector.
F.ex. JE, JEA, JEB, JEI, JEL, JEN & JES.
And there are more.
Which is what or what is which, I don't have the slightest idea of for now.
Some research has to be made first.
Any idea of the year of rel.?

I've got a 45rpm EP from Jazz Collector JEL 22, which has the 78s L1 on one side and L102 on the other. Maybe the J came along when they started vinyl?

Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to the origin of the J in the JL catalogue prefix. Could it be "Joint" here rather than Jazz? And why did the same record have a different prefix with another issue?

 Probably rel. in 1950.
