lorangrecords 1st Aug 2013		I still think you are wrong in the way my intentions are. I only tried to have an easier way to search for ex. Accompaniment or instruments. I mean that different instruments without translation into English will not be practically searchable. If we shall discuss this more, I feel the mod forum would be fine. What about the main artist then? It smells not good at all.



Jock_Girl ● 31st Jul 2013		The language of the label copy should always take precedence over English. In that way, a person with a copy of the record looking for additional info (via Google) will be able to easily find it by typing in exactly what is on the label. Translations should be in the notes however, unless they are translations of the title and on the label with the title. Example, if I have a record that has a title "Alla Tyst på östfronten" with no translation, its nice to put the translation in the notes. It should NOT go on the title line because it is not a part of the label copy. However if the label copy says "Alla Tyst på östfronten (All Quiet on the Eastern Front)" then it does belong in the label copy. Like wise if the extra information says "Zuzana Adamová s orchestrom Slovenského rozhlasu pod taktovkou Jána Navrátila", with the artist being Zuzana Adamová, one should put "s orchestrom Slovenského rozhlasu pod taktovkou Jána Navrátila" in the note with a further note translation of "with the Slovak Radio Orchestra conducted by Jan Navratil" In my opinion English, while predominant must never be used imperialistically



Billy Two 31st Jul 2013		If someone search for "accompaniment" by an orchestra or chorus or whatever, he (she) will use the English word not the Swedish or Finnish for it. That's why it's useful to have the translation in the notes, so a general search will bring up the answer whether you use English or the language used on the disc. This is only an English speaking site by default, and the aim ought to be as inclusive for as many different languages as there are different language discs. This disc is as likely to be owned by a Finnish speaker as it is an English speaker, so we should be prepared for the reasonable eventuality that it will be searched for in its native language. Also, we wouldn't want to start changing what's actually printed on the label in the entry fields, as that really would lead to issues... BT



lorangrecords 31st Jul 2013		Can't agree with you BT. In the artist field, yes. But our main language is English on the site, and myself I never use Swedish for Acc. or the instruments in the notes. If someone search for "accompaniment" by an orchestra or chorus or whatever, he (she) will use the English word not the Swedish or Finnish for it. But it was just a thought not an order.



Billy Two 30th Jul 2013		Generally speaking people will search for the words that are on the actual label so it's good to use exactly what's printed there, whatever language that may be in. However, the Notes section can be used to point out these translations, and indeed that'd be useful for someone like me who hasn't the faintest clue as to the Finnish language !!
