If you are a fan of boogie music, you probably already know about Will Bradley. If you don't, you should. Will Bradley would go on to make a specialty of big band boogie on the red label Columbias. His chief partners in crime would be drummer/vocalist Ray McKinley and boogie pianist Freddie Slack. They would give us "Beat Me Daddy Eight To The Bar" and "Down The Road Apiece" in small group formats plus many great boogie themed big band anthems like "Celery Stalks at Midnight". Bradley was a virtuoso trombone player, highly sought after in the studio bands of the pre-swing era under his given name of Wilbur Schwichtenburg. He was widely acknowledged as the technically "better man" by acclaimed 'bone men such as Tommy Dorsey but he never found a formula that made full use of his own talents that worked as well as the boogie formula did. The Columbias are not especially rare. If you see the Joe Davis tracks, you would be well-advised to grab them while you can.
