 Per Tony Russell, Vernon Dalhart also recorded "You Can't Blame Me For That" for Cameo around the same time as he made those other recordings. However, in "Pseudonyms on American Records", Allan Sutton attributes the James Rogers alias to Irving Kaufman on this particular record, based on aural evidence. Kaufman did record the song for the Plaza group on September 6, 1927 (mx. 7494) and it was released on Banner 6159 and related labels in March 1928. I can't confirm that it was released on Broadway though. The flip side has the Broadway control number 1004 and that corresponds to Plaza mx. 7775, a Dalhart & Robison performance that was recorded on February 8, 1928. Unfortunately, my reference does not list Broadway control # 1005. ("The Plaza-ARC Discography, Vol. 1" by Billie W. Thomas and Allan Sutton).

 I already knew that Wolfe Ballard is Vernon Dalhart and I believe James Rogers is too. Dalhart went all over New York and recorded different versions of "You Can't Blame Me For That " for Victor (21306); Edison (52249); and Pathé Actuelle (32345)/Perfect (12424). This is probably the recording that was made for Pathé since neither Edison or Victor are relative to Broadway.
