| HBRALLAN 4th Nov 2019 | The following two releases were listed in BILLBOARD’s Advance Releases column on 5th July 1947 [Page 123]. AUTOGRAPH 2003 DOLPH HEWITT & ALLSTAR ROUNDUP “I Love You As You Are” AUTOGRAPH 2003 DOLPH HEWITT & ALLSTAR ROUNDUP “Peg 'O My Heart” AUTOGRAPH 2004 DOLPH HEWITT & ALLSTAR ROUNDUP “Sallys Gone To Santa Fe” AUTOGRAPH 2004 DOLPH HEWITT & ALLSTAR ROUNDUP “I'm Mad About You” Both sides of the second release, “Sallys Gone To Santa Fe” and “I'm Mad About You” were issued on DIXIE [Ohio] 116. However, the following release on AUTOGRAPH surfaced recently and it tends to suggest that the two Dolph Hewitt releases were not actually issued on AUTOGRAPH. Both possibly came out on DIXIE, with “I Love You As You Are” and “Peg 'O My Heart” released on DIXIE 115 AUTOGRAPH 2004 Okla's Own Cowboy Singer CHARLIE HUFF “Stuck Up Blues” AUTOGRAPH 2004 Okla's Own Cowboy Singer CHARLIE HUFF “Patonia (Pride Of The Plains)” You will note that AUTOGRAPH 2004 has no reference on the label to Associated Distributors, Inc. It also does not have AD master numbers. Instead both sides have, what appears to be, CRYSTAL master numbers CRS 103 / CRS 104. Both sides of this record were rereleased on CRYSTAL 163 with the same CRS numbers. Given that CRYSTAL 163 is also a release credited to Okla's Own Cowboy Singer CHARLIE HUFF, and has the master numbers CRS 101 / CRS 102, perhaps this disc was originally issued on AUTOGRAPH 2003? Interestingly AUTOGRAPH 2001, and 2002, which are credited To THE RANCH HANDS, a group that included amongst its number Hil Duffy, who later turns up as a member of The SADDLE DUSTERS, a group which recorded several numbers for CRYSTAL. This tends to suggest that the Marietta, Ohio, AUTOGRAPH label morphed into the CRYSTAL linked AUTOGRAPH label? Perhaps they should all be lumped together, with the exception of course of the VIC ANTHONY disc [AUTOGRAPH 817/818]. | |
