han enderman 6th Oct 2023		Down Beat 114 - Labels recently added by rhythmdog are of a late Down Beat pressing; very interesting, as I had never seen this remarkable variant. I have added the original A-side label (B-side regrettably not seen) (#1). It has credit Lowel, no dash in the cat.nr (114 A) (as on other early Down Beat pressings), no composer, and description of "VOCAL" only. It must be rare, as I saved this image in 2004 and never found another one. I also added images of the next label type (#2), which is identical, but has the dash (114-A/-B). The B-side is titled Want To See My Baby. And then it appeared that the later (3rd) pressing is different ! It has credit & composer & description (in lower case) Lowell Fulson, but its B-side is (at least on the label) Mean Woman. But Mean Woman Blues was released on Down Beat 113-A. The number in the wax should identify the track. The next (4th) pressing is on Swing Time 114, which has the B-side I Want To See My Baby (note addition of "I"). Down Beat 113 & 114 have normal DB-numbers in the runout, but Swing Time 114 has BT-1074/75 (original Big Town release). For comparison I have added an image of Swing Time 114-B that shows BT-1075. (I have an image of 114-B with BT-1074 in the wax, but assume that labels have been reversed.) Note that Swing Time 114 is one of the very few Swing Times that reissue a Down Beat release with the same cat.nr (and thus presumably from 1950).
