Many thanks for the fascinating fluffontheneedle link. From that we see that the matrix number for this was 3793f
Note also the reference to the label colour being reserved for Clara Butt issues
BTW, I see that the reference to Buster's big10inchrecord blog is not related to this particular record

Should Gramophone Private Record be a separate sub-label ? ( Or Maybe a list would suffice )

Come to that how can something be manufactured by sister companies of the manufacturer ( unless the label printing was done by a separate company, cutting another and pressing by a third - didnt think there were any in 1909 just the one (UK) The Gramophone Co Ltd, maybe it was a way of protecting patents - and as we all I think know the The Gramophone Co Ltd history is convoluted to say the least.

What does it sound like ?

Apparently the record was made so that Mr and Mrs Rumford could send it (well one of ) to Clara's brother Warwick Gladstone Butt and his wife Lila Millian (née Livingston). Warwick married Lila on the 28th of April 1909 and was then working for the Santa Fé Land Company of Argentina. The company was a among other things a major exporter of frozen beef to the UK. Hence the recording date of 1st November 1909.

( Information from http://fluffontheneedle.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/christmas-1909-with-clara-bertie.html - I think that itself taken from http://big10inchrecord.blogspot.co.uk/ )

This would have made a very recherché Christmas present for friends of Clara Butt and Bertie Rumford!
