slholzer 14th Dec 2016		Because Velvet Tone, Harmony and Diva issued exactly the same records in lockstep for the better part of their existence, many early discographers got lazy and declined to list all of the issues, deferring to one label (usually Harmony) and expecting readers to know that Harmony 1-H was the same as Velvet Tone 1001-V and Diva 2001-G. Brian Rust was one such person. If you didn't read the introductory parts of the books, you might not know that. In my opinion, it is a flaw of major proportions, only barely excused by the enormous proportions of the overall task he was tackling under infinitely harder circumstances than we know now. I think 78rpm discography lists some Velvet Tones under Harmony because they haven't prepared a complete Velvet Tone list yet and they can bridge some of the gap by referring to their Harmony list using the "Harmony number + 1000" rule noted above. Diva went out of business before the lock step ended, but Harmony and Velvet Tone did not. The Velvet Tone list on 78rpm discography covers the post lockstep period.
