I'm glad you got it off without doing major damage to the label underneath, though, and happy to have at least part of the answer to the question I posed. Now we know that this is the July version. I wonder if anybody has a copy of the August version. | |
| jscaptura 20th Apr 2017 | I just removed the "41" sticker from this copy, and the matrix on the label reads (67910). The numbers in the runout of the record are 67910A. | |
| slholzer 18th Apr 2017 | Per Rust's American Dance Band Discography Russ Morgan made "I'll Never Smile Again" twice, once on July 3, 1940 and once on August 27. 1940. Both were issued on Decca 3289. Both had vocals by Paul Roberts. The master number on the July version was 67910. On the August version it was 68010. Hopefully, the label bears the correct matrix number for whichever version is actually in the grooves. When in doubt, check the wax. | |
